How to get to Rivendell

Please Note: The address and telephone number of Rivendell is only given out once a booking has been made and will be sent with your booking confirmation. This helps us preserve the peaceful atmosphere of the retreat centre.
Taxis
Please do book a taxi in advance. It is often impossible to get a taxi between 4-7pm without it having been booked the day before travelling!
At Uckfield station take a taxi to Rivendell, (£7-8, check the price beforehand with driver). Uckfield (01825): 764646 (TMT), 764546 (Reliable), 765885 (R+R), 767832 (Jem), 760700 (Markland). You can also leave the train at Crowborough, 2 stops, before Uckfield - £7-8. (01892): 667782. (Buxted station is closest to Rivendell but has no taxis).
By Train from London to Uckfield
There is a direct hourly service from London Bridge, leaving shortly after the hour, usually from platforms 10-16, allow 75 mins. Direct trains: London Bridge 1608-Uckfield 1721, London Bridge 1638-Uckfield 1751, (additional train), London Bridge 1707-Uckfield 1818. If you are travelling from London Victoria or other stations you can join these trains at East Croydon (platform 6), 15 mins later. Check train times on: 08457 48 49 50 or

Return Journey
Lifts to the station are usually available at the end of each retreat.
Buses from Brighton
Stagecoach service 29 for Tunbridge wells, leaving Churchill Square. Please check times at
www.buses.co.uk or on 01273 886200. The bus arrives at Uckfield bus station approximately 54 minutes after leaving Brighton. Book a taxi to pick you up from here. [If you would like to walk to Rivendell, stay on the bus and ask for the stop at the ‘Crow and Gate’ pub, about 15mins after stopping at Uckfield. From here walk 100 metres along the main road, (the A 26), toward Tunbridge Wells. The first turning on the right is Chillies Lane, (signposted High Hurstwood). Rivendell is approximately a 40 min. walk down Chillies Lane].
By Car from the West
Use the M25 to junction 6 south and turn onto the A22 south.
By Car from South London
Take the A22 from Croydon and Purley (towards Eastbourne). From Junction 6, follow the A22 for 23 miles, through East Grinstead and Forest Row, past Maresfield, towards Uckfield. At Black Down Roundabout, (with petrol station), turn left on to the A26 towards Crowborough and Tunbridge Wells. Continue towards Crowborough for 4 miles. (
Ignore the turning signposted to High Hurstwood!). Pass through Herons Gill and continue on to the ‘Crow and Gate’ pub, and then take the right hand turn sign posted to High Hurstwood, into Chillies Lane. From here follow directions below.
By Car from East London, Kent & East Anglia
Travel clockwise on M25; at junction 5 take right fork onto A21, towards Sevenoaks. Continue on A21 until the A26 to Southborough and Tunbridge Wells. Follow the A26 through Tunbridge Wells and Crowborough. 1½ miles after the crossroads in the centre of Crowborough take a sharp left turn sign posted to High Hurstwood into Chillies Lane. (If you pass the ‘Crow and Gate’ pub on the A26 then you have gone too far!). From here follow directions at the bottom of the page.
By Car from Brighton
Head east on A27, towards Eastbourne. Turn left, after Lewes, onto A26 at roundabout, towards Tunbridge Wells. Continue through tunnel and turn right at next roundabout. Continue 9 miles until Little Horsted roundabout. Turn left, (towards London and East Grinstead) as the A26 joins the A22 to go round the Uckfield bypass. After 4 miles, at Black Down Roundabout, (with petrol station), the A22 and A26 divide again. Resume A26, straight ahead, to Crowborough and Tunbridge Wells. Continue towards Crowborough for 4 miles. (

By Car from the Top of Chillies Lane
Continue for 2 miles down Chillies Lane. Rivendell is on the left – look for the white ‘Rivendell’ signs. Holy Trinity Church is immediately past us. (So if you pass the church and High Hurstwood school then you have gone too far!).
Please park as neatly & tightly as possible, parking space is very limited!
