Meditation Retreats

These retreats are only suitable for those who have been on retreat here before, or attend a class at another FWBO centre. They will include meditation, puja and periods of silence. Please note that some retreats specify a minimum amount of regular meditation experience is required.

If you are new to meditation we recommend you attend one of our introductory weekends

White Tara Weekend with Karunavajra and Padmavajri
On this weekend Tara will be evoked not only as a Bodhisattva, the embodiment of Wisdom and Compassion, but also as the other archetypes which she embodies. The weekend will include meditation, talks, discussion, poetry and ritual, plus time to enjoy the garden and the countryside in spring. Suitable for those familiar with both FWBO meditation practices and puja.

Dancing with the Dakinis of Wisdom with Maitrivajri
Earth, Water, Fire, Air, Space, Freedom! This year, the Mandala of the of the Five Prajnas (or Female Buddhas) will appear in their Dakini forms. Entering their realm of spirited freedom and transformation we will reside in, and dance to, their songs of Wisdom. We invite you to join us stepping into this vibrant and mysterious realm. In ritual, discussion, meditation and play we can dance with the dakinis a dance of transformation.

Moving into Stillness with Khemasiddhi and Vajrashraddha
Busy world ? Busy Life? In this retreat we will explore how to bring more spaciousness and stillness into our lives. The retreat will include time to reflect, meditate, explore nature and take part in creative activities. These will guide you into your place of inner quietness and help you keep this connection alive when you return home. Come either for the weekend or the full week. (Suitable for those familiar with both basic FWBO meditations).

Mindfulness with Paramananda
A chance to learn ways of working more effectively with this, the most basic, and yet potentially profound of meditations. Mindfulness is a skill whose relevance and application is boundless.

The Wisdom of the Body – ‘Focusing’ with Manjudeva and Jutika
Focusing is the practice of listening to the wisdom of our bodies. Through learning to rest our awareness in the body we begin to see that it has something new to say about our lives, and maybe about life itself. Focusing can be a powerful tool for transformation. The Art of Meditation with Paramananda
‘…meditation is not predominantly a matter of technical expertise, but more akin to an art which can be mastered only through practice’
(from: ‘The Art of Meditation – The Body’ by Paramananda).
Suitable for those who have been meditating for at least 6 months.
November 14-21 (Autumn): £280/235

Meditation & the Elements with Kamalashila
In the special atmosphere of the winter solstice, a retreat based on the six elements of earth, water, fire, wind, space and awareness. This is a well-proven framework for going deeper with the familiar FWBO shamatha-vipashyana practices. After a settling-in period, this event will be largely in silence with daily teaching and question time, personal meditation reviews, group meditation and ritual. (Suitable for those with at least six months experience of FWBO meditation)

Midwinter Calm with Samayasri
As the winter days draw darker we will create an oasis of quiet, meditation and reflection; as well as some warming firelight frivolity to remind us that sunnier days are soon on their way.

Solitary Chalet
We have a well-equipped and recently upgraded chalet for solitary retreats, set in a secluded part of the garden with separate access. We provide heating linen, and dried and fresh food for you to cook. Lettings run from Friday to Friday.
