Introductory events
For events and dates see details below
On these popular retreats we introduce two classic meditations from the Buddhist tradition.
The mindfulness of breathing
helps us to develop calm and concentrated states of mind.
The Metta Bhavana - 'development of universal loving kindness'
is a practice which develops emotional positivity and creativity.
Meditation is central to Buddhist practice, and can be usefully practiced by anyone, whether or not they wish to become Buddhists.
In addition, there are talks and discussions about meditation and basic aspects of Buddhism, as well as time to
relax and enjoy the peace and beauty of the surroundings
Being with others on retreat can be quite a strong experience. We enjoy leading them, and know that many people get a lot out of them.
We often see that they make a significant difference.
After the weekend you will be able to meditate by yourself, if you wish, and we'll help with
suggestions about what to do next.

Most people find it better to learn to meditate on retreat. However, if you are unable to get away, or wish to get a taste before coming here, you are welcome to attend evening or lunchtime classes at any of our other centres. The websites of the nearest centres are:
Croydon Buddhist Centre
Brighton Buddhist Centre
London Buddhist Centre (East)
London Buddhist Centre (North)
London Buddhist Centre (West)
For a full list, see our links page.
People usually get more out of our other retreats if they already know how to meditate. A few of our other retreats
are open for those with little or no experience of meditation.
If you've done an Introductory event here, or at other FWBO centres, try the
Going Deeper series.
