About Rivendell Buddhist Retreat Centre
The Triratna Buddhist Community (previously known as the FWBO) have been running retreats at Rivendell for last 25 years. Our aim is to make the benefits of meditation and the Buddha’s teachings relevant and practical to anyone in the modern world.
Situated on the edge of a small East Sussex village, the retreat centre itself is housed in a former Victorian rectory. There are two comfortable lounges, one containing a bookshop and library. The accommodation is simple yet warm and comfortable. Bedrooms are upstairs and are shared by members of the same sex. The heart of Rivendell is the beautiful and peaceful shrine room. Surrounding the house is a lovely garden, beyond that lie fields and mature woodland stretching to the Ashdown Forest.
Food is all tasty, healthy and vegetarian and is cooked for you by one of our team of volunteer cooks. Rivendell is very much based on principals of co-operation and generosity. Retreatants are asked to help out with light domestic duties such as washing up. This helps connect everyone on the retreat and create an atmosphere of care and mutual concern.
Different teams come to run each retreat at Rivendell, each bringing there own particular skills and experiences. They will be on hand throughout any retreat to support everyone present, answer questions and make sure everyone gets the most out of their stay.
