How To Get To Rivendell By Car

Please aim to arrive at Rivendell between 5 and 7 pm. (Retreats normally start at with a light supper at 7pm).

From the west:
Use the M25 to junction 6 south and turn onto the A22 south.

From south London:
Take the A22 from Croydon and Purley (towards Eastbourne).
From Junction 6, follow the A22 for 23 miles, through East Grinstead and Forest Row, (over Ashdown Forest), past Maresfield, towards Uckfield.
At Black Down Roundabout, (with petrol station), turn left onto A26 to Crowborough and Tunbridge Wells.
Go over the next roundabout (Budletts, ¼ mile).
After about another mile take right turn* off the A26 to High Hurstwood, (sign posted), into (narrow) Rocks Lane, as the main road (A26) takes a bend to the left.
At T junction at the end of Rocks Lane, (¾ mile), turn left into Chillies Lane.
Continue 1½ miles, past the Maypole pub.
Continue past Perryman's Lane on left, (opposite Village Hall), bear left, still on Chillies Lane as the road forks.
Rivendell is on the right, just after the school and the Church lane.

* If you miss the first turn off the A26, continue towards Crowborough for 2½ miles.
Immediately after Crow and Gate pub on the left, turn right to High Hurstwood.
Rivendell is on the left, 1½ miles from this (north) end of Chillies Lane, (100 metres past the red telephone box).

From East London
We rcommend you use thes Blackwall tunnel and A2, and not the A20.

From East Anglia:
Travel clockwise on M25; at junction 5 take right fork onto A21, (still motorway for 1 mile), towards Sevenoaks.
Continue on A21 dual carriageway until (slip road for) the A26 to Southborough and Tunbridge Wells. Follow the A26 through Tunbridge Wells and Crowborough.
1½ miles out of Crowborough take sharp left turn to High Hurstwood into Chillies Lane.
Rivendell is on the left, 1½ miles downhill. (100 metres past the red telephone box).

From Brighton:
Head east on A27, towards Eastbourne; turn left, after Lewes, onto A26 at a roundabout, towards Tunbridge Wells.
Continue (through tunnel) 9 miles till Little Horsted Roundabout.
Turn left, (towards London and East Grinstead) as the A26 joins the A22 to go round the Uckfield bypass.
After c.4 miles, at Black Down Roundabout (with petrol station) the A22 and A26 divide again.
Resume A26, straight ahead, to Crowborough and Tunbridge Wells.
Go over the next roundabout (Budletts, ¼ mile).
